I’m always ecstatic at the excitement of the year! Between Christmas and the New Year, I take a few days to reflect on the days that have passed during the year. I evaluate my goals for the year. I look at the ones I accomplished. I ponder over the ones where I struggled and try to determine how I got sidetracked.
During this time of Self-Evaluation, I ask myself 4 Questions.
What caused me to lose focus? Let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1
Were the struggles of my own doing, or were they environmental? But when he (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” – Matthew 14:30
Did I stay in the Word and on the path, God set before? But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
· Did I try to accomplish the same goals by doing the same things? Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:23-2
God has already given me the road map to complete whatever tasks He puts before me, even the goals I set for myself. After all, He told me in Psalms 37:4 that He will give me the desires of my heart. Scripture check – it also says that if I delight myself in Him if I commit my way to Him and trust in Him. I always like to do a Scripture check on the passage because it is always taken out of context. Bottomline, God will do His part, but we also have a role. I call it a Self-Check, and it is HARD!
Most of us are on board when we talk about Self-Care, and we should be. Self-care is taking care of the mind and body. But if we take care of the whole self, we must also take care of the soul. Soul-Care calls for Self-Evaluation. This is not our favorite part because it can reveal our ugly pieces. You know! Those pieces that we think God and man don’t know about us. FYI, God knows, and man sees.
So, as begin 2023, I challenge you to take Reflect - Self-Evaluate – Prepare – Move. It leads to a more beautiful you, ready to fulfill all the goals and dreams God has before you.
